Yankees and Rays brawl

It’s only spring training but a skirmish between the Yankees and Rays broke out. Baseball season is starting off with a bang with a nice rivalry between the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. It started this past Saturday with Elliot Johnson collided with Francisco Cervilli at home plate breaking Cervilli’s wrist. Of course tempers flared with Duncan making some comments that he was going to play with “increased intensity”. So you can kind of guess that was going to make today’s game an interesting one. What started the skirmish was when Shelley Duncan tried to go to second base and slid hard into Ray’s second baseman while leading with his spikes up. With that move, it cleared both benches once the Rays right fielder Jonny Gomes sprinted in and tackled Duncan. All of this occurred during the second inning. Once it was over Yankee’s Shelley Duncan, Third Base Coach Bobby Meacham, Hitting Coach Kevin Long, and Tampa Bay’s Jonny Gomes were all ejected because of this incident.
