Kansas vs Memphis for the Championship

It’s now down to Kansas and Memphis to battle it out for the Championship. It was hard watching North Carolina lose to Kansas but only since I had them making it to the championship in my bracket. I figured Kansas would lose a couple of games back to an upset, but this did not happen. Kansas fought hard all year starting with 20 straight wins but struggling through their next couple of games. It was interesting to see North Carolina lose Bobby Frasor and Ty Lawson but keep winning and improving their game only to lose to Memphis. I did have Memphis going to the Semifinals but getting beat, boy did I miss out. With and amazing record of 38-1 Memphis just keeps on winning and winning. I did bet that UCLA wouldn’t make it that far since they did lose to Texas and USC on home turf. They were also battered with injuries to Darren Collison, Michael Roll, Alfred Abova, Luc Richard, and Mbah a Moute. So I was amazed they went as far as they did. So all in all I think Memphis could pull out a win and hope they do since Kansas beat North Carolina to make it to the championship game.

Bengals Out Henry

The now former Cincinnati Bengal Chris Henry was released from jail on Friday. He is being accused of punching an 18 year old in the face and breaking his car window with a beer bottle Monday night. The Cincinnati Bengals released Chris Henry last Thursday, which came a few hours before he was arraigned on charges of assault and criminal damaging.  His attorney has entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. With five previous arrests since 2005, he can chalk up another one to make it six. He was suspended for the first half of last season for the five prior arrests. This doesn’t come as a surprise that the Bengals cut him, which because of the most recent arrest will likely cause him to be suspended for the 2008 season if he is found guilty. The possible replacement could Antonio Chatman who would take over the third wide receiver position. If this is not who they choose to go with, they could try and pick up a wide receiver in this year’s draft.

Cung Le defeats Frank Shamrock

In a large turnout to one of the biggest MMA fights in the Bay Area, Cung Le took home the Strikeforce middleweight championship by defeating the legendary Frank Shamrock. More than 16,000 fans packed into HP Pavilion to watch what would be a great fight between Le and Shamrock.

The fight ended after the third round with Shamrock calling the fight due to a kick from Le that broke his arm. Watching the fight it was hard to tell that his arm was broken, it wasn’t until the post interview when you could see Shamrock grimace from the pain. Cung Le is still undefeated picking up another win to go (6-0). Weeks before the fight Shamrock explained his game plan was to Stand up and trade with Le. This is what most likely led to his loss. Shamrock did attempt to takedown Le early in the fight only to be thwarted by Le.

After that it was Cung Le that attacked with strikes, counter-punches and plenty of kicks. In the post fight interview Shamrock was clearly in pain. “Cung Le broke by right arm, ” he said. “He’s a better man. He’s the champion.”

Le also commented on the fight. “I knew I caught him good in the hand, ” Le said of Shamrock attempts to fend off head kicks. “He kept blocking, so I kept aiming at that part of the wrist”

It was an awesome display of fighting skills that had the audience riled up from beginning to end. Below is the final round that led to Cung Le’s win.
